A classic and elegant jar with bold color that would make a stunning statement for any room.
Glazed in a deep, garnet maroon satin that looks like velvet. The interior is a glossy version of the same.
I throw this form on the potter’s wheel and then alter it and the lid into a soft square shape. The foot is trimmed and then carved for a nice detailed accent giving a little lift and shadow to the base. I also decorate the surface with sponged and trailed slip (the clay version of cake-decorating) in swirls and dots of textured pattern, here reminiscent of damask.
