An elegant jar in a royal color with a contemporary shape and design.
Glazed in a warm-toned satin purple with a glossy interior in a lighter shade.
I throw this form on the potter’s wheel and then alter it and the lid into a soft square shape. The foot is trimmed and then carved for a nice detailed accent giving a little lift and shadow to the base. I also decorate the surface with sponged and trailed slip (the clay version of cake-decorating) in swirls and dots of textured pattern, here reminiscent of damask.
