Soft/Treasure: Large box (Garter series) in Cornflower blue

$590.00

To be succinct, this is one of my all time favorite pieces. Maybe that's all I need to say, but there's more!

I am happy to share that this box was awarded the top prize, Best of Show, by renowned ceramic artist and professor Pete Pinnell for the National Contemporary Clay Biennial held at the Western Colorado Center for the Arts.

These box forms were designed to hold keepsakes: a rare letter, inherited jewelry, a favorite old photograph. The inside, while ceramic, appears soft and pillowy. A perfect and regal hideaway for your treasures. The intent for the function is subtly a part of the pattern as the words "SOFT" and "TREASURE" are lightly carved and layered in with the other surface details. Elegant in any room. Beautiful to use, or use just for beauty. Truly one-of-a-kind.

A satin glaze in a cadet blue with a glossy version of the same on the interior and accents.

Despite its shape, I did throw this piece on the potters wheel. It is heavily altered and the lid is darted (a fabric term for cutting out one shape and mending the seam to create a new shape), giving it "crown" form. The feet and details are carved, the "ribbons" are sprigs (shallow relief mold application), and the surface includes various slip (liquid clay) decorating techniques (like cake-decorating).
